I fling my arms over my chest, not believing where  his eyes have been lingering and throw my head on the table to cover my blush
creeping up my face. I try to hide my laugh, but I can’t hold it back.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt:
Past:
 “Hi, I’m Evelyn.” She sticks her beautiful tanned hand out to shake mine. I am dumbfounded, at a loss for words. I mean, I just hit this girl in the head with a volleyball and she is being polite.
“Um, sorry about the volleyball. I’m Tristan.” I shake her hand in return and the air around us crackles and pops. I pull my hand back quickly. What the hell was that?
“Well, Tristan, next time try not hitting a girl in the head with the volleyball when you’re ogling her.” My mouth drops open. I am busted.
“I…I…I’m sorry.” I mean, what the fuck else is there to say?
“It’s all right.” She laughs and it is such a beautiful laugh.
“So how old are you Tristan? You look like you’re around seventeen.” She cocks her head to stare back at me.
“I’m…I’m fifteen,” I stammer out. What in the hell is wrong with me?
“Well, you look older. I’m fourteen. It was nice meeting you Tristan.” She points to a beach house. “That’s where I’m staying if you ever want to visit.” With that, she walks away, her beautiful long chocolate brown hair waving in the wind.
Present:
I glance down, pulling her hand to me. The air crackles and pops at the first touch of her skin against mine. It’s as if I can breathe again. Four years of air rush into my lungs at once, overwhelming me. I look closely at the symbol on the bracelet. I can’t breathe. This cannot be what I think it is. Tears are stinging my fucking eyes. This cannot be happening.
“This…this is a cancer survivor bracelet,” I whisper.
I look up into Ev's beautiful chestnut eyes and she nods, releasing my grip and lifting her hair as she tilts her head. Three long scars hide underneath her hair.
“Brain cancer. I had a tumor, and it came back three times. I can’t remember the years from when I was fourteen up until nineteen,” she whispers, letting her hair fall back down.
Drake and I gasp at the same time. This whole time I thought she left me, left us, and she was fucking dying of cancer. I cannot breathe. Someone needs to get me some fucking air. I eye the tequila, hesitating before I start downing it straight from the bottle. After I am satisfied, I let the bottle slip from my lips.
Unedited Snippet from Author Crystal Spears – Underneath theWillow Tree
I lay in a fetal position, my head under the blanket, mybreathing ragged.  I hear his footstepsstop right outside my bedroom door.  Isuck in all the air I can, willing myself not to make a sound.  If he doesn’t hear me he may not enter.    Days like this I don’t feel like living anylonger.  I wish the darkness thatsurrounds me would just swallow me whole. Just when my thoughts start running towards the deep end my door fliesopen smacking the wall with a loud thud.
“Lila Anne, are you awake,” he growls.
My bottom lip quivers as I silently beg for him to leave,the knots in my stomach twisting and turning as if I’m being gutted alive.  I might as well be when he is around.  A tear slowly escapes the corner of my lefteye, cascading down my cheek.  I almostwhimper, just almost.  But theconsequences of being awake are far too great so the sound is swallowed as ittries making its way up.
Deleted Scene:
Shane – March 18, 2010 11:13 am
Jake and May’s home
“You’re late.” May gave me a stern look but I could see her struggling to keep her lips from pulling into a smile. She brushed her deep red hair over her shoulder in a dramatic gesture and put her hands on her hips.
“May, I would like you to meet Jenn.”
May couldn’t contain her smile any longer. She pulled Jenn into an awkward hug. Jenn grunted and I could hardly suppress my laugh as I shook my head.
“Pleasure to meet you,” Jenn’s voice cracked as her nerves began to get the best of her. It was adorable how her cheeks tinged pink when she was nervous. I realized I was staring a second after May as she shot me a wink over Jenn’s shoulder. She released her embrace as Jake entered the living room.
“You’re late,” Jake called out as he took his place beside his wife.
“I’m so sorry. It is all my fault,” Jenn rambled.
“This isn’t work. He’s not going to fire you,” I whispered to her as she worried her lip with her teeth. My gaze dropped to her mouth as her lips parted slightly and she let out a small sigh. “If you want me to kick his ass just say the word.”
Jake rolled his eyes as Jenn let out a small laugh.
“Well, it is getting a little warm in here. I’m going to open the window.” May laughed as she made her way back into the kitchen and pushed up the window above the sink. Jake had a look of disapproval on his face as he folded his arms over his chest.
“Enjoying your vacation? I hope my cousin isn’t bothering you too much.” Jake’s eyes flicked to mine but quickly returned to Jenn’s. I clenched my jaw and kept myself from saying anything in response.
“He’s no bother. We’ve been having a lot of fun.” The pink returned to her cheeks.
“Well, are you just gonna stand by the door all day or are you gonna eat? The food is getting cold.” May called out as she sat dished on the table.
“Where are the boys?” I asked as I gestured for Jenn to follow me into the kitchen.
“They ate an hour ago.” Her eyes locked onto mine before she went back to her task of setting out silverware. “I’ve released them into the wild. They are off at the neighbor’s.”
I pulled out one of the oak chairs and waited for Jenn to sit before sliding into the one next to her. May and Jake took their seats across the table from us.
“Help yourselves.” May grabbed a biscuit from the plate in front of her.
“Thank you so much, May. This all looks amazing.” Jenn said, her voice finally sounding more like her own.
“It is no trouble at all. I had to devise a plan to meet the girl who is occupying all of Shane’s time.” I cleared my throat and glanced to Jake, pleading with him silently to stop May. He just smiled and shook his head. I should have known he would be no help. He disapproved of Jenn and me talking from the moment he found out.
“That’s a nice shirt, Shane. The color really brings out your eyes.” May shoved a bite of scrambled eggs into her mouth.
“Thank you. Jenn picked it out.” I glanced to Jenn who was smiling proudly. The flashback of being at the mall with her, being inside that photo booth with her lips pressed against mine came to the forefront of my thoughts.
“She has great taste,” May now had a permanent smirk on her face. It did not go over my head that she was now talking about more than the shirt. I wanted to kick her under the table. Like she was reading my mind, she slid her chair back a few inches and took a big gulp of her orange juice.
“She does taste great.” As the words left my mouth I knew there was no hope that no one had heard my mix-up. May choked and sputtered on her drink and Jenn looked frozen, holding a piece of bacon midair. “That’s not-,” I struggled to correct myself as Jake grabbed his drink and raised it in the air with a victorious smirk.
“You have a lovely home, May.” Jenn bit off a bite from her bacon, avoiding eye contact with anyone else at the table.
“Thanks. I bet it must be a bit of a shock to you.”
“Why would it be a shock?” Jenn furrowed her brow.
“I’d just assumed anyone who works with Jake would think he lives under a bridge somewhere with the rest of the trolls.” She laughed as Jake glared at her. Jenn nearly choked on her bite as we all laughed and relaxed a bit.
“Come on.” Jake set his fork down on his plate and narrowed his eyes at his wife. “I’m not that bad am I, Jenn?”
“That’s not right. You can’t ask her that.” May shot back waving her hand in front of Jake. That was one thing I loved about May she had a way of making anyone feel relaxed. I hoped that she would form a friendship with Jenn. I wanted someone to be here for her when I had to leave. I swallowed back the lump that had formed in my throat.
“I’m fair.” Jake gestured to Jenn in hopes she would back him up.
“You are fair…ly mean.” She crinkled her nose, waiting for his response.
“I like you.” May’s eyes lit up at Jenn and I knew I wouldn’t have to worry about her being alone.
About Teresa Mummert:
I was a Russian spy at the ripe age of thirteen, given my uncanny ability to tell if someone was lying ( I also read fortunes on the weekends). By sixteen I had become too much of a handful for the Lethal Intelligence Ensemble (L.I.E.). I was quickly exiled to the south of France where I worked with wayward elephants in the Circus of Roaming Animals and People (C.R.A.P.). I was able to make ends meet by selling my organs on the black market for pocket change and beer money. At the age of twenty three I decided to expand my horizons and become a blackjack dealer in Ireland. I loved the family atmosphere at Barney's Underground Liquor Lounge (B.U.L.L.). People couldn't resist the allure of Liquor up front and poker in the rear. Eventually I became tired of the rear and headed off to the United States to try my hand at tall tales. That is what brings us here today. If you have a moment I'd like to tell you a story.
Blog Tour: "The Perpetual Quest for the Perfect Life" by Michelle Pace & Tammy Coons-Authors
Blurb:
Tourists flock to Jefferson Point for the antique shops and riverboat tours. Everyone knows everyone and secrets are impossible to keep. Or so it seems...
Dr. Ryan Harper's brutal slaying stuns the picturesque river town. High school football star, Prom King, and on his way to finishing his residency, Ryan was their golden child.
After a two-year struggle to care for their young son alone, his widow, Nicole, reluctantly returns to Jefferson Point. Her homecoming reopens old wounds, as Ryan's family and friends struggle to adapt to life without his dynamic presence.
The last person Nicole expects to reconnect with is Aaron Foster, Ryan’s best man and reluctant keeper of his secrets.
With opinions circulating on Nicole’s post-Ryan existence, she must maneuver the rapids of past loves, new expectations, and haunting dreams of her fallen husband.
The Perpetual Quest for the Perfect Life is a frank story of questionable decisions, small town politics, and love after loss.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Exclusive Deleted Scene:

Ryan had refused to come at the last minute. Then he hadn’t called or texted her in days. Nicole added this fact to the ever mounting column of reasons to end their fraud of a relationship. None of her friends only saw their boyfriends once every 4 to 6 weeks and most of them talked to them more than every seven to ten days. She was pretty fed up with him and the myriad of his priorities that somehow managed to trump her.

After another pizza dinner, she and Aaron drank what seemed like gallons of beer as the concert ramped up. Having fun with Aaron was effortless, as always, and helped take her mind off Ryan. At one point, Aaron wrapped his arms around her from behind, and swayed with her to the music. Nicole found herself relaxing into him and though a tiny section of her mind blared a warning alarm, she ignored it. Her phone vibrated nonstop, as Ryan chose tonight of all nights to text her with a vengeance. Annoyed, she turned off her phone for the rest of the show.

Afterward, Nicole and Aaron stumbled off “the L” and staggered the three blocks to Nicole’s apartment. She turned her phone back on and shook her head as it began a steady vibration. When they passed a pair of men loitering by a lamp post, Aaron casually placed his arm around her. She tingled with excitement when he failed to remove it after they’d put considerable distance between them and the men. Though her neighborhood hadn’t once made her nervous since she started SAIC, Nicole found his closeness exciting and said nothing. Her phone chimed another text message alert. She glanced at it and saw it was from Ryan. She shoved it back into her pocket without reading it.

“Spoon blew me away. I cannot get over how good they were live.” Nicole cooed as she unlocked the outside door.

“They were all right.”

“They rocked and you know it, Foster.” She shot him a scowl and noticed his dimples emerge. He was baiting her and she was buzzed enough to take the challenge. She pressed the up button on the elevator.
“What’s with the lead singer? Sounded like he had a cold.” Aaron replied from behind her as they entered the open elevator doors.

“He always sounds like that. It’s what I love about him.” The doors closed and the aged elevator lurched, causing her to stumble into him. He tried to steady her, but she suspected he was drunker than she, and he stumbled in her direction. He stopped from smashing into her by placing his hands on the wall on either side of her head, effectively pinning her.

His green eyes searched hers, and Nic’s heart hammered when Aaron’s eyes shifted to her lips. She had to tilt her head up at him, feeling vulnerable yet powerful when she witnessed the heat rise in his cheeks. Just when she was certain he would kiss her, the bell dinged and the doors slid open. He glanced at the door, then back at her. His green eyes twinkled as his dimples made yet another brief appearance. He stepped back from her and she stumbled hurriedly off the elevator.

Once inside the studio apartment, she turned on her Ipod docking station and selected Spoon. To his credit, for once Aaron didn’t argue with her music choice. He kicked off his shoes and shed his jacket. He stretched, allowing her an up close view of his lower abs. Seeming oblivious to her presence, he shrugged out of his shirt and began to unbutton his jeans. Nicole struggled not to drool over her boyfriend’s best friend. She picked up a plate she’d left on the side table and took it to the sink. Aaron shook out a comforter and began to set up for the third night of sleeping on her couch. It was an old lumpy thing that she hated to sit on, let alone nap on. He was so much taller than her that his legs from the mid-calf down hung off the edge. She felt guilty for having a soft queen size bed to collapse on and as he was about to cover up his fantastic body with the comforter, she found her voice.

“This is totally ridiculous. Come sleep with me in the bed before you end up in traction.”
Aaron rolled to his side and cocked an eyebrow at her. She felt her cheeks catch fire.
“Well, well. That’s quite an offer. What do you think Ryan would say about that, Sweetcheeks?”
She shrugged. “Serves him right for blowing us off this weekend.”
She folded her arms and watched the smile vanish from Aaron’s face. A look of apprehension took its place.

“Calm down, Aaron. It’s a queen sized bed.”

“Promise to stay on your side.” She thought his response was supposed to be a joke, but his voice had a husky, coy quality that made her tuck her long hair behind her ears with trembling fingers.
“Don’t be a dick.” She retreated to the restroom and changed into a long t-shirt and when she returned, Aaron was already in her bed. He had his hands behind his head, staring at the ceiling.
She climbed in on the other side and switched off the lamp. The room was lit by the streetlamps outside and nothing else. Though it was April, the wind blowing off Lake Michigan seeped through the poorly sealed windows of the old building. She shivered as she considered throwing on sweatpants.
“Cold?” Aaron’s voice cut through the dark like a knife through butter.
“Duh. How can you not be? “ Her teeth chattered and he rolled over in her direction.
“I’m hot blooded.” He replied as he pulled her to him. Nicole snuggled into him on reflex. He stroked the back of her t-shirt, and soon her entire body was pressed against his side.
“Better?” His voice was a deep whisper.
“Mmmhmmm…” Her eyelids were heavy from drinking and the comfort of his closeness. She felt his hand stroke her long hair, and placed her hand on his bare chest. She ran her fingertips thoughtlessly across his flesh and felt him kiss her temple with warm, wet lips. A contented sigh escaped her and she turned her face to his.

“I’d better go back to the couch.”

“But I just got warm. “ She whined tiredly. “Why?’

“Because I really want to kiss you, Nicki.”

“So what’s stopping you?” She waited for the inevitable. She waited to hear Ryan’s name.
Aaron’s mouth was on hers and Nic let out a sound of surprise as his tongue slipped into her mouth. He tasted salty and sweet, and she found she had no control over her hands as they gripped his hair. His kisses intensified and he rolled on top of her. The weight and heat of his body inflamed her, and she arched her back, needing to somehow be closer to him. One of his hands was on her upper thigh and the other slipped under her shirt, making its way to her bare breast. She groaned as he playfully pinched her nipple and he pulled her shirt up in response. His mouth was on her breast and she forced it harder onto her with a vengeance. He switched breasts and she cried out softly as his teeth nipped her lightly.
“Aaron.” She moaned, her mind reeling.

“Want me to stop?” His voice was playful, and she knew he was already aware of the answer. She found her hand in his boxers and felt her eyebrows shoot skyward at the size of him bulging in her palm. Suddenly her apartment phone range on her bedside table.

“Ignore it.” Aaron growled between kisses. Nicole pulled away and saw Ryan’s number on the caller I.D. Guilt slammed into her like a freight train, and she pulled away from him, pushing him back.

Blog Tour "Personal Growth" by Chelsea Falin

Book 2 "Personal Growth"

Teaser:

"Aunt Janie?" I asked, finding her at the kitchen table. She was looking over some papers, which I assumed by the calculator were finances. "Are you busy?"

Aunt Janie looked up. "No, no. I could use a break from this anyways. What is it, sweetie?"

"I was just thinking about a lot of things today." I wasn't really sure how to broach the subject of heritage or my father with her.

"Like what?"

"Well, for starters...if you're three quarters Choctaw, was momma that much to?" Aunt Janie nodded her head to say that it did. "So what does that make me?"

"Three-eighths, I think, from our side." Aunt Janie answered.

Nodding my head to show I understood, I said, "Well...I was wondering something else." I paused momentarily, pondering how best to ask this question. I finally decided the best way to do it was to just be out with it. "Do you know who my father was?"

Aunt Janie's face took on a slightly pained expression as though my words caused her a small physical blow. "Your mom never told you who your father was?" I shook my head to answer no but remained silent. "Well, yes, I know who your father is."

Book 1: "Less Than Humble Beginnings"

Excerpt:

There was a knock on the door. I had no idea who it could be. Midnight was much too late for a normal caller, and we didn't really get any callers when my mother wasn't here. I had no friends, and neither did Babette. We had never really stayed in one place long enough to make any friends. The family had a bad reputation, anyway, so people in general were further dissuaded from 'making our acquaintance.'

I tiptoed towards the door. The first thing I saw when I reached the front room were the flashing red lights. I peered through the peep hole in the door, and saw a uniformed police officer standing just outside the door, on the front stoop.

I opened the door, and peeked my head out. I didn't say anything, but the police officer removed his hat, holding it tightly in his two obviously sweaty hands.

"Willamina?" I nodded my head in answer, still saying nothing. My first reaction was that this was the day they would pick up my mother and take her away to jail. For what, I wasn't really sure, but I knew that there were many things she did that warranted jail time. My first reaction was shattered into pieces when the police officer said, "I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but there's been an accident."

My heart stopped, and dropped straight into my stomach. "Accident?" I choked out.

"Yes. I'm sorry, but your mother died today in a car accident. She was killed on impact."

My world went spiraling out of control, and tears leaked from my eyes. I heard the police officer say again how sorry he was, heard Babette calling to me from our bedroom, but none of it made sense. Nothing made sense anymore. Nothing would ever make sense again...

Book Blurb:
Can love survive when life gets Reckless?

When the band hits it big, Kiera and Kellan must ask themselves: Can their love for each other survive the constant pressures of superstardom? The friendships they've formed, the new family they've found, and the history they've forged will all play a part in helping them navigate the turbulent waters of the band's exploding popularity. A greedy executive hell-bent on success, a declining pop star looking for an edge, and a media circus that twists lies into truths are just some of the obstacles the lovers will have to overcome if they are going to remain together. Fame comes with a price-but will it cost Kiera and Kellan everything?

Please enjoy this teaser:

With the phone glued to my ear, I got ready for bed. Because I missed him, I
threw on a shirt that I didn’t typically wear. Not because I didn’t like it, but because it
was saturated with Kellan’s scent, and I didn’t want that to fade. Slipping on the black
shirt with the word Douchebags in bright‐white bold letters, I crawled into the bed I
shared with Kellan.

As Kellan gave me the rundown on his schedule, I brought the fabric of my t‐shirt
up to my nose and inhaled the smell of him. It was incredible, manly, yet clean. I still
wasn’t sure what combination of products he used to create that scent, but it was the
most sensuous smell in the world. And I suppose it was possible that it wasn’t a
manufactured scent. Maybe he just naturally smelled amazing; his bare skin was quite
edible after all.

I giggled a little at that thought and Kellan stopped talking. “What are you
doing?” he asked, a clear smile in his voice.

“I just crawled into bed–”

He immediately cut me off. “Are you naked?”

I flushed all over, and felt a stirring in my body by his words alone. I could still
hear faint noises in the background, so I knew Kellan wasn’t by himself. But maybe he
could be…

“No…I’m wearing the shirt you gave me a long time ago. It’s my favorite shirt. I
don’t usually wear it, though.” I closed my eyes as I confessed just how obsessed with
him I was. “It smells like you, and I want it to stay that way.”

Kellan chuckled in a low tone; it ignited the spark of heat in my belly that he’d
stoked earlier. I ran a hand over my body as the ache of loneliness within me grew. I
missed him so much–his touch, his smile, his eyes, his tattoo…his heart. Everything.

“Really?” he asked. “Do I…smell?”

A low, purr‐like sound escaped me. “Yes, you do, and it’s the best smell in the
world. Better than coffee.”

Kellan groaned. “God, Kiera, you’re turning me on.

Synopsis:
Tyler Karras is an honest man, a transplanted Brit living the American dream, but his charmed life takes an unexpected turn when his brother, Nick, is coerced into joining ranks with San Francisco’s Russian mafia. Ty intervenes to secure Nick’s freedom, yet only succeeds in incurring their wrath. With no choice but to accept Nick’s new life, Ty returns to his own, but his dreams are dashed when his wife—pregnant with their first child—is killed, the victim of a reckless crime.

Despondent and bitter, Ty macerates his grief in alcohol. From the depths of the bottle screams a voice, howling for vengeance. His target is a stranger, the woman who drew his wife toward her death. He doesn’t know her, but he’ll find her, and when he does, he will make her pay, for a deal has been struck with Nick’s Russian associates, enslaving her into a life of bondage. But as Ty moves forward in a cloud of alcohol, he mistakes the wrong woman for his intended victim and now all his plans have gone straight to hell.

With his eyes made clear by the stark reality of his mistake, Ty is driven, compelled by remorse and a relentless sense of guilt to make amends and protect Hannah Maguire, the innocent woman whose life he has derailed. He vows to keep her safe and out of the Russians’ hands, but they’re holding Nick as leverage to force Ty to complete their deal and turn over the girl. Once again, he must fight to free his brother, miring all three lives in further jeopardy. But Ty can’t do it all: Save the girl, his brother and his own soul. One of them must make the ultimate sacrifice.

Excerpt:

God, I didn’t want to do this. Just thinking about it had my gut tied in knots, but I was out of options. My brother had given me no choice. I was tired of his promises, sick of his attitude, of everything always being someone else’s fault, never his. While my fiancée, Jillian, and I had discussed what I should say to him, I continued to rehearse, point by point, during my short commute home. But who was I kidding? I knew damn well, no matter what I said, my brother would throw every word right back in my face, like he always did. But I didn’t care anymore. After four long weeks, he had overstayed his welcome, and now it was time for Nick to leave.

The confrontation loomed only minutes away, and I was dreading it. And if that wasn’t enough, there was the fog. Cold and persistent, it clung to the road like a drowning man to driftwood. It was the one thing I’d never grown accustomed to here in San Francisco, the summer fog burning off each afternoon only to reappear a few hours later, denser than ever. Add to it the waning twilight and you couldn’t see much at all, just indistinct shapes of black and grey. I could barely make out the colorful Victorian facades standing shoulder to shoulder along my street. The painted ladies simply faded into the mist.

I pulled into my driveway and shifted into park, a long sigh escaping at the thought of what waited for me inside. As I grabbed the roll of blueprints next to me, a movement outside caught my eye, a dark shape on the sidewalk a few doors down, writhing about in the murky shadows. I strained to see what it was, an injured animal perhaps, though it seemed too large for that, at least in this part of The City. Golden Gate Park maybe, but that was blocks away. I snatched my keys from the ignition, shut the door to my truck, and ambled up the front walkway, my gaze fixed on the squirming silhouette. There were no noises or crying that I could hear, but then again, the fog had a way of deadening all sound. After wrestling in the dark with the deadbolt, I shot one last glance over my shoulder then pushed through my front door.

“Nick?” I called out, my keys jingling as I worked them from the lock. “Why are all the lights off?” I switched on the hall light and kicked off my shoes as I waited, but I heard no reply, so I tried once more, only louder. “Nick, you hear me? Where are you?”

A disturbing silence hung in the air, uncomfortable and creepy. Unexpected since my brother was supposed to be home, day and night, no exceptions. He'd recently gotten himself into a heap of trouble, and now there were some large men gunning for a little payback. Par for the course for my little brother. He was always getting into one scrape or another. But this time was different. Nick was scared. Really scared. Scared enough to ask if he could hide out at my place while he tried to straighten out the mess with the men he’d crossed, a gang of Russian thugs from his neighborhood in the Outer Richmond District here in The City. One wrong step, like out the front door, and Nick might not see the light of another day, or so he told me.

I glanced upstairs, but it, too, stood dark and quiet. Something definitely wasn’t right. The hair pricked on the back of my neck, and the knots in my stomach morphed into a swarm of butterflies, all battling to escape. I threw down my keys and blueprints and walked through the house, turning on lights in my path.

“Nick, answer me! Where the hell are you?”

I don't know why I expected a response that third time. Maybe I was just praying for one instead, but the silence was all the answer I received. I stood still, deep in thought, worried about what might have happened. He wouldn’t have left the house, would he? I turned toward the entry hall. Oh God, no. I dashed back out the front door, pausing on the porch as I scanned for the dark form. It was still squirming on the sidewalk, but it appeared even larger now.

The streetlight out front was just beginning to dance to life. Sporadic bursts of pale pink light illuminated two feet as they kicked and twisted in the hazy air. The single shape expanded into three distinct forms—all human—one prone on the ground and two bent above, their arms sawing up and down and back and forth with hands clenched tight into fists.

“Oh, God. Nick!” I sprinted toward them in a panic, anxiety blossoming into fear.

“Tyler!” he wailed, but his cry was cut short by pounding thuds.

The other two men—both built like bulls and panting in exertion—stood up straight. They turned toward me with their fists pulled back. And as the streetlight overhead finally flickered on for good, the one inside my head flashed bright then flamed out.

Nancy has also given us an extra exclusive excerpt:

The following is an excerpt from (my protagonist) Tyler Karras’s journal, recalling the first mandated meeting with his psychiatric advisor after his arrest and subsequent induction into the federal witness protection program.

“Hello, Mr. Karras,” the man said when I entered his office. He stood with his hand outstretched. “My name is Dr. Baldwin.”
I was hesitant to shake it, worried he might detect how much mine trembled. Then again, he probably already knew my history. After all, he’d been appointed by the FBI to help me get through my withdrawal from all the booze and pills I’d been taking, so I’d be healthy and believable once I took the stand and testified.
What the hell. I took his hand in a firm shake. Maybe that would camouflage it. I smiled, but barely.
“Please,” I said, “call me Tyler, or Ty.”
“Very well, Ty.”
He took his seat in an authentic Eames chair. Business must be damn good if he could afford a $7,000 piece of furniture. He directed me to a comfortable-looking club chair opposite him. No chaise lounge in this guy’s office.
“So,” he continued as he browsed through his notes, “you’ve been completely off hard alcohol and OxyContin for about six days now, is that correct?” He glanced up over the rim of his glasses.
I nodded, my eyes dropping to my feet. “Yes, that’s right.”
“I understand it’s been a rough few months.” He glanced up again and caught another nod from me. “You’ve suffered a great deal of loss. Do you feel comfortable talking about it?”
I shrugged and pointed toward his file. “Probably says all you need to know in there. Agent Sidorov took extensive notes at my interrogation.”
“Yes, he did. Says your parents and teenaged sister died in a car accident with your kid brother, Nick, at the wheel.”
“That was a while ago,” I agreed. “Before my wife’s…accident.”
His brow shot up. “Was that an accident?” he asked. “I was under the impression you thought it was murder, or manslaughter, at the very least.”
I drew my shoulders back. “It was! Jillian wouldn’t have died if that woman hadn’t provoked her!”
“Yet you feel responsible somehow.”
My whole frame sagged. He was right, and I nodded in agreement.
“And your guilt,” he added, “is that what’s behind your substance abuse?”
I leaned forward, my elbows on my knees and my hands clasped in a tight knot. Another nod. My shame prevented me from admitting it aloud.
“Mr. Karras…er, Ty, rather…you understand this is all privilege, don’t you? Nothing you say here will be discussed with Agent Sidorov or anyone within the bureau, or any other agency, for that matter. You’re completely safe here.”
He looked me straight in the eye, and I saw something there, a genuineness, a look that said I could trust him. God knows, I needed to unload, to discuss what had driven me to do such unspeakable things. I took a deep breath and sighed.
“If I had helped my wife, like she’d begged me to, she wouldn’t be dead, and I wouldn’t have jumped off the deep end afterwards. I wouldn’t have started drinking or taking those damn pills. I wouldn’t have turned to vengeance as a means to relieve my guilt.” I dropped my gaze back to the floor and shook my head. “And I wouldn’t have mistakenly targeted Hannah, Ms. Maguire, for the woman I was really after.”
“I see,” he said with a single nod. “Go on.”
I stood up and started pacing slowly. “It wasn’t all for revenge, you know. It was the only way I could secure my brother’s freedom.”
There, I’d said it. There was no turning back now. I stopped and faced the doctor.
“I made a deal with the devil—sex-traffickers deep within San Francisco’s Russian Mafia. The life and freedom of the woman who’d killed my wife in exchange for my brother, to pay off his debt and get him out from underneath their control.” I began pacing again. “But once I discovered I’d…taken…the wrong woman, I couldn’t go through with it. But by then, it was too late. I’d already hurt her, pretty badly.” I dropped my chin, disgusted by what I’d done. “And the Russians, they decided it was either the woman, innocent or not, or Nick. They said they’d kill him if I didn’t complete our deal and turn her over to them.”
His eyes grew wide and were glued to mine.
“So…what did you do?” he asked.
I stopped and thought about what I’d already confessed to—kidnapping and assault—and what I was about to confess—possible murder, even if it was in my own defense, and that of this innocent woman.  It might all lead to more, things I’d done, but could barely tolerate thinking about, let alone speak of.
And Hannah, she didn’t want anyone to know what had happened. She’d made me promise, swear I’d never tell another living soul. With everything we’d been through together, all that I’d put her through, I wasn’t about to betray her yet again.
I realized then, though we’d likely never see each other again, that I’d come to love her. I looked the doc in the eye.
“I’m sorry. I can’t do this,” I said then strode from the room.
This was one secret I was determined to take to my grave.

Ok friends, I am sooo excited to sit down with the Amazing New Author; Lisa M. Harley
First, I'd like to thank you, Lisa for the opportunity to interview you and for having me as a beta reader for "Destined To Change" I was honored to be  part of that and it's been a pleasure reading and talking with you about it. I absolutely love your book!

So let's jump into some questions here...

(Stacy) Where were you; and when did you realize that you wanted to be an Author?

(Lisa) I have always enjoyed writing, but as a single mom I haven’t had much time to think about it. A Facebook group I’m in had a contest where they asked members to write a prologue.  I thought about it and decided it could be fun.  I didn’t win, but I enjoyed it and I got a lot of great feedback.  That prologue led to "Destined to Change".

(Stacy) That's Awesome! Thank you to that Facebook group!!!
So Lisa, how did the idea of "Destined To Change" come to you?

(Lisa) I have had the idea for this book in my head for years.  There are a few parts of the book that are pulled from my life…I’ll leave it at that.

(Stacy) When writing the story, what were your "must-haves"?

(Lisa) Diet Coke and music.  I sit on my couch with my laptop on my lap, my Diet Coke at my side, and my ear buds in playing my DTC playlist.

(Stacy) You can listen to Lisa's DTC Playlist here on Spotify :-) "Destined To Change" by Lisa M. Harley Playlist

(Stacy) How did the story unfold in your mind? Did you always know how it would end?

(Lisa) I wrote the ending when I was writing the prologue.  I always knew how it would end.  So I knew exactly where I needed to go, I just had to figure out how to get there. That was the fun part.

I had several people try to sway me and make it end differently, but I just couldn’t do it.  This story ends the way it needed to for all of the characters.  I really couldn’t be happier with the wrap-up.

(Stacy) Which character voice was the loudest?

(Lisa) I would have to say Cade.  When ya’ll meet this big cowboy I think you’ll understand.

(Stacy) Well, his voice was definitely loud, but for me, it's all MY Jaxon <3 (bahaha, Really though, I'm serious, Jaxon is Mine… y'all may love and admire him from afar)

 You have written some very emotional scenes in "Destined To Change", how did writing those scenes effect you?

(Lisa) Those scenes have made me cry myself to sleep on more than one occasion.  I literally bawled my eyes out with one of the last scenes I wrote.  It was a vital scene, but it killed me to write it.

(Stacy) those scenes left me sobbing too.... Lucky for us, you already wrote the ending back when you wrote the prologue, otherwise, I think we would be in for troubled hearts and tear streaked cheeks!

Well I see on your author page www.facebook.com/Destinedtochange you have a
playlist for your book... How did you pick these songs?

(Lisa) Like I mentioned earlier…I cannot write without music.  The songs that I’ve added to the playlist all fit the story.  Some will make you cry, some will make you laugh, but they will all make you feel the characters from DTC.

(Stacy) well one of those songs has a video on YouTube, and well, yeah... moth to the flame.... I'll be a sobbing mess after this interview. At least I wont be alone, now that I've mentioned that video you'll be watching it too!

Speaking of which, Lisa, some of these songs are pretty heartbreaking... Are you going to make us ugly-cry?

(Lisa) I hate to answer that…it’s a tough question. I cried at certain scenes, but I’m a softy. I guess you’ll just have to read the book to find out. 😉

(Stacy) You've casted your characters on your author page, what did you feel, when
you saw these casts that match the characters you created in your head? And for everyone's FYI, Jaxon has been PERMANENTLY CASTED.... tyvm 😉

(Lisa) I actually had seen the picture of my Jaxon character months before I started writing.  I saved it on my phone.  Sad, I know.  Anyway, when I started writing a friend of mine said “OMG…that’s your Jaxon” and I realized it totally was.  When I saw the picture of my Declan character, it was just perfect.  He looked exactly like I had described him.  And Cade, well, Cade was hard to cast.  Luckily, one of my beta readers kinda fell in love with him and she found the perfect pic. And for Loralei, well does anyone really care what she looks like? lol

(Stacy) Loralei is adorable, please tell us about her. From the teasers she seems like a strong & independent woman... But with 3 hot, diverse guys in her life, readers will be curious how she is gonna handle them... Will she loose herself in them?

(Lisa) Loralei is very strong.  She has endured a lot in her life and she is ready to make some changes.  She has no problem handling the men in her life.

(Stacy) You've got some very sexy, strong  & passionate guys in your book, how fun was it to write with their voices?

(Lisa) SO FUN! I seriously enjoyed writing those characters more than Loralei.  (That’s probably pretty bad, but I speak the truth.)

(Stacy) From the teasers on your Author page, we can see that these 3 hotties will be awesome to read about… Can you give us a sentence or two about your thoughts on each one?

(Lisa)

Declan: Sweetheart - I really think ya’ll will fall in love with him.

Jaxon: Badass with a gentle soul.

(Stacy **clears throat... Ahem, Jaxon is MINE, that is all**)

Cade: COWBOY – Big, funny cowboy.

(Stacy) Reading the teasers you've shared, and based on the comments readers have
posted on your author page, it's clear that all 3 guys have fans already... How does
that make you feel?

(Lisa) It makes me smile.  I love to go online and read all the comments. As a writer it is so hard to put your characters out there.  You don’t know what people will think and it’s scary.  So when people are creating Facebook groups for characters for a book that isn’t even out yet…yeah, that makes me happy.

(Stacy) Do you have plans for more books following "Destined To Change"? Are we
looking at book 1 in "The Destined Series" perhaps?

(Lisa) Definitely.  DTC is Book 1 of the Destined Series.  Book 2 is titled: "Destined to Succeed" and the prologue for it will be included at the end of this book.

(Stacy) Oh, that is so exciting! I'm adding it to my Goodreads TBR list now! Here is the link so you all can add it too: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17368908-destined-to-succeed

Thank you so much for this interview... I've really enjoyed it.
